Interaktive Tour durch die Zitadelle von Seyne-les-Alpes

16 - Old city
The town of the end of the 17th century occupied almost the location of the current concentration of roofs that you have in front of you.
Seyne was then surrounded by ramparts. (The cottages and small buildings scattered around this compact agglomeration are recent constructions.)
Plan of Seyne at the beginning of the XVIIth century.
In the event of occupation of the city, the strong front constituted a bridgehead in direct contact with the enemy.
Notice the masonry openings on the ground. These are the casemates' aeration chimneys (a subterranean level along this long section of the Fort).
